National news

The Squash Wales Premier League Playoff Final took place tonight at Swansea Tennis & Squash Club, as Swansea A faced Rhiwbina A in front of a fantastic crowd of over 100 spectators.

Supporters from clubs across Wales attended the final, creating an outstanding atmosphere for what proved to be a superb evening of Welsh squash. Swansea Tennis & Squash Club also provided hot food for guests throughout the night, helping make the occasion a real celebration of the domestic game.

The evening opened with Swansea’s Dan Anderson producing a strong performance to defeat Peter Berkley 3-0 (11/8, 11/5, 11/7), giving Swansea A an early advantage.

Match two delivered the first thriller of the night, with Tomos Rosser edging past Richard Murphy in five games. After a fiercely contested battle, Rosser secured the win 3-2 (9/11, 11/5, 5/11, 11/9, 11/2) to extend Swansea’s lead.

The third match saw the battle of the number one seeds, with Lewis Poole taking on David Haley in arguably the match of the evening. In another high-quality five-game contest, Poole came through 3-2 (12/10, 3/11, 12/10, 4/11, 11/4), putting Swansea firmly in control of the tie.

Rhiwbina responded strongly in match four as Rhys Luffman defeated Luka Middleton 3-1 (6/11, 11/6, 11/4, 11/3), keeping Rhiwbina’s hopes alive heading into the final rubber.

The final match of the night saw Swansea A captain Steve Colarusso take on Declan Cottrell. Declan started superbly, taking the opening two games 11/0 and 11/5 before Colarusso battled back to level the match with 11/7 and 11/8 victories. In a tense deciding game, Cottrell held his nerve to win 11/8 and secure a 3-2 victory for Rhiwbina.

Despite the late fightback from Rhiwbina A, Swansea A’s excellent performances across the evening saw them claim the overall final by 16 points to 10 and become the 2026 Squash Wales Premier League Playoff Champions.

Commiserations to Rhiwbina A, who produced a valiant and closely fought performance throughout the evening.

A big thank you goes to Squash Wales officials Christopher Neye and Paul Thomas for refereeing all matches during the final.

Squash Wales would also like to thank Swansea Tennis & Squash Club and its volunteers for hosting such a successful event, as well as all supporters of Welsh squash who attended and helped create a fantastic atmosphere.

We now look forward to celebrating league success from across Wales at the Squash Wales Presentation Evening on Saturday 13th June 2026 at the Leonardo Hotel Cardiff.
