Wales Crowned Champions at Masters Home Internationals

16th April 2026

Masters

The Women’s O35/40s team delivered an unforgettable performance to be crowned champions at the Masters Home Internationals in Ireland, in what was a weekend packed with drama, determination and outstanding team spirit.

Across three matches, Wales produced a series of incredible performances, with multiple five-set battles, comebacks and moments of real grit to secure a historic victory.

🔥 Strong Start Against England

Wales opened their campaign with a 5-0 victory over England — a scoreline that didn’t reflect the intensity of the contest.

  • Anna Adams got the team off to a winning start with a hard-fought 3-2 victory
  • Gemma Davies marked her return from injury with an impressive five-set win
  • Captain Stacey Gooding followed with another 3-2 victory
  • Rebecca Baker was in control before an unfortunate injury to her opponent
  • Jenny McKenna sealed the result on debut

A huge result, with the tie lasting nearly five hours and setting the tone for the weekend.

💪 Securing a Medal Against Ireland

Saturday morning brought a crucial match against hosts Ireland, with a win guaranteeing at least a medal.

  • Sarah Creed produced a composed 3-0 win to start strongly
  • Gemma pushed again to five sets but narrowly lost to the previously unbeaten Siobhan
  • Stacey delivered a key win against a familiar opponent
  • Bec’s battled to a 3-2 victory to secure at least silver
  • Jenny closed out the tie for a 4-1 win

🏆 Champions Decided Against Scotland

The final match against Scotland would decide the title — with everything on the line.

  • Anna fought hard but lost 3-1
  • Sarah levelled the tie with a dominant 3-0 performance
  • Gemma once again went the distance, winning in five sets
  • With the score at 2-1, Stacey delivered a crucial 3-1 win to clinch the title
  • Jenny completed the job to confirm a 4-1 victory

🎉 A Historic Moment

Despite tired bodies after a demanding weekend, the team celebrated in style as they secured a historic achievement.

For the first time, the Women’s O35/40s Masters Home Internationals trophy was brought back to Wales — a landmark moment for the Women’s O35/40s team.

Captain Stacey said:

“I couldn’t be prouder of the girls and to captain this team. We fought, we laughed, we were iconic — and we went and won it!”

👏 Team Effort

A huge thank you also goes to the Welsh supporters who travelled and backed the team throughout the weekend.

This was a true squad effort — defined by resilience, teamwork and belief — and a performance that will be remembered for a long time.
