21st June 2021

JuniorLocal news

Saturday 19th June to Friday 25th June is National School Sport Week and we’ve kicked things off at Garth Primary School in Maesteg to celebrate!

A number of pupils at Garth Primary have already expressed interest in joining Maesteg Squash club and we are looking forward to delivering their second session this Friday and signpost them to the next club session.

Squash Wales have jumped at the opportunity to start our schools programme since re-opening by delivering 2-3 sessions a week in Primary Schools throughout Wales. Already, we have delivered in Meadowlane Primary and Church in Wales Primary Schools in St Mellons, Llangynwyd Primary and Garth Primary Schools in Maesteg. With the help and support of club coaches including Owen Heyes of Hirwaun, Rhys Luffman of St Mellons and Sally Davis of Maesteg, sessions have proved to be a huge success.

Pupils in Years 4, 5 and 6 have had the opportunity to give squash a go through a structed session and have been able to progress and improve their skills during their second session. For some, squash has been a brand new sport that pupils have never played. Nevertheless, all pupils have shown determination and commitment to improving session by session. There has been fantastic talent on show at all schools involved in the programme and we’re really excited to continue their developments over the next 12 months. Already, we have had much interest from pupils and parents to join their local squash club and we can’t wait to complete our programme in other areas throughout Wales!

If this is something your school or club is interested in getting involved with, please get in touch with us!
