LLANTRISANT OPEN 2018 - Squash Wales

LLANTRISANT OPEN 2018

26th June 2018

Local news

Despite the sun, despite the heat and despite the World Cup, squash supporters turned out in droves and enjoyed a fantastic spectacle for squash in South Wales. Entry numbers were up again this year, to 70, and an even greater mixture of youth and “experience” was represented across all grades. Lots of new faces appeared alongside familiar faces from Clubs far and wide in England and Wales. Spectator numbers were high right from the off at 5pm on Friday through to the main event on Sunday afternoon. Players were enthusiastically supported by club members, travelling supporters and proud parents alike. A large number of evenly matched draws went the distance and threatened the tight schedule. Those matches provided great entertainment, and thanks to the service of Beca Smith, Defiance Sports Therapy, players were able to seek a sports massage to ease the aches and pains between rounds.

At the end of a gruelling 5 setter, newcomer Luke Bishop [1] hailed victorious over Greg Tippings [2]. Congratulations Luke! Congratulations to all our Grade Winners and Finalists from main draws and plates who shared a Prize Pot of £745. Full results are now available online. Our thanks go to all our sponsors, competitors, spectators, helpers and the host venue: Llantrisant Leisure Centre, who oversaw the refurbishment of all 4 courts in the two weeks leading up to the tournament. Watch this space as we try to elevate the Open once again in 2019. See you next year!
