HAVERFORDWEST DEVELOPMENT EVENT

14th August 2018

National news

Haverfordwest host the first West Wales junior development event this year!

Saturday 21st July, Haverfordwest hosted the First West Wales junior development event this year, between 10.00 and 14.00pm. We had 18 juniors from 6 years to 14 year olds turned up to take part in the fun packed day. Juniors from Haverfordwest squash club, Carmarthen squash club, Pembroke Bush and the Meads Milford Haven squash club attended the event.

Development events are a fantastic way to bring surrounding clubs and more importantly juniors together and an important first step in developing and getting juniors used to competition within a non-pressure environment with the emphasis on taking part and enjoyment.

The day starts with each junior receiving their snazzy T-shirt for entering, then it is on court to play some ¾ court games, on each court we have a coach to help out and for this event we had James (Wally) Walters and Alfie Wheeler from Meads squash club, as well as helping the coaches are moving the juniors between courts trying to end with an even split of children with near the same ability, not always an easy task. With 18 juniors we decided to run a team event, 4 teams of 4 with team captains chosen they discussed with their team mates and came up with the following team names.

The Squash Warriors
Ribena
Squashers
Squashies

Well done to all the players who came along and thanks to parents, grandparents and coaches for bringing them along and coming to support. Watch out on SW web http://www.walessquashandracketball.co.uk/ twitter for the next event in West Wales

Thank you Haverfordwest Great hosts. Any feedback or comments on the event or future events to: West Wales Development Officer, Pete Crook[email protected] – 07809 236762
