We are increasingly cognisant of the escalating health and safety issues arising from the global outbreak of COVID-19. As a result Squash Wales has decided to postpone all events listed below, including Training Nights, until the end of April 2020:
March
20th – 22nd – North Wales Masters Event in Wrexham
21st – 22nd – U15 National Squad in Cardiff
28th – 29th – U19 National Squad in Cardiff
April
6th – Academy Squad in Cardiff
7th – Academy Squad in Cardiff
8th – Academy Squad in Cardiff
14th – Academy Squad in Deeside
15th – Academy Squad in Bangor
24th – 25th – Masters Home Internationals in Cardiff
25th – U13 One Day National Squad in Newtown
The postponement comes as a result of the increasing number of COVID-19 cases in Wales and in the wake of the World Health Organization’s declaration on Wednesday that COVID-19 constitutes a global pandemic. The organisers and players of the events above have been advised accordingly.
The PSA has also just announced the suspension of the PSA Tour, together with other sporting bodies doing the same. We also have the Postponement of the U17/U19 event in Eindhoven, the UK 5 Nations, and expect more to follow.
We appreciate the impact that this has on our players and others in the sport, and the decision was not taken lightly, but the health and safety of all concerned has to be a priority at this time. For now, as the numbers are relatively small, we propose to continue with the League programme, but this remains under daily review and may change in the future. We will inform all concerned immediately of any change.
We will continue to monitor carefully the progress of this situation and review the position toward the end of April, at which time we will provide an update on the way forward.
We also appreciate your understanding at this time and are sure you will agree this is in the best interest of all those concerned with this unique situation.
