Welsh Junior Closed Squash Championships 2025

31st January 2025

Junior

The best junior players from across Wales converged at the National Squash Centre in Cardiff on the 25th and 26th of January for the Welsh Junior Closed. The weekend showcased some fantastic squash, with national selection on the line for many players, ensuring competitive matches throughout the event.
This year’s tournament had a tremendous atmosphere. After last year’s event ended on a sour note, it was heartening to see players competing in the right spirit and supporters showing mutual respect. Long may this continue. It was also fantastic to see so many players competing for the very first time.
I would like to recognise the tremendous contribution of the clubs in developing these junior players. Merthyr, Bridgend, and Rhiwbina led the way with their players crowned as Welsh Champions. With junior sections springing up across the country, I am confident we’ll soon see other clubs producing future Welsh Champions.
Boys and girls competed across six categories based on their age groups. The winners were as follows:

  • U9 Mixed: Manny Taylor
  • U11 Boys: Owain Howe
  • U11 Girls: Elsie Griffiths
  • U13 Boys: Salah Farag
  • U13 Girls: Grace Breach
  • U15 Boys: Gethin Poole
  • U15 Girls: Elize Hales
  • U17 Girls & U19 Winner: Nia Seran Thomas
  • U17 Boys: Archie Davies Clarke
  • U19 Boys: Oliver Jones

Congratulations to all the winners! A huge thank you to the players, parents, and coaches for making this event so special. I’m already looking forward to seeing the selected players represent Wales in the upcoming Five Nations and European Team Championships. The entire squash community in Wales is behind you!
