Wales Women’S O35 / O40 Masters Home Internationals Report For Nottingham 2023

As they say a picture tells a thousand words…although I wasn’t there in person I was there in spirit and as a picture – thanks girls!

The ladies team had a little set back a week before the tournament with Jenny McKenna pulling out due to injury but super sub Helen Barnard was ready and raring to go. We had two Master newbies this year in Gemma Davies and Anna Adams with Sarah Creed and Rebecca Baker making up the fabulous five.

The girls arrived in Nottingham with their two supporters Chris and Rhi in tow ready to take on England. Unfortunately the English ladies were too strong for us on this occasion but the ladies gave it their all. Super sub had a 3-2 victory over Sophie Beake with Sarah losing 3-2 to Kate Bradshaw.

After an early night with no alcohol consumed the girls got ready to take on Scotland. Anna got her first win in a Welsh shirt winning 11-9 in the fifth, super sub got her moneys worth again beating Mhari Gritz 3-2, it looked like Sarah was going to have another five setter but unfortunately lost in four, Becs and Gemma both got their first win of the weekend giving us a 4-1 win over our fellow Celts.

Ireland to finish…super sub became the queen of 3-2s beating Orla O’Doherty in five. Anna had another five set battle unfortunately losing this time 12-10 in the fifth. Bec’s decided she wanted to join in with the five setter club but fell short losing 3-2 to Rachel McNulty. Gemma didn’t have five games in her so finished it off in four. With the games tied at 2-2 it was all on the final game. Sarah covered herself with deep heat and made it on court to play Siobhan Parker unfortunately the Irish lady was too strong giving Ireland the win and second place. Great battle between the two teams.

What all the girls were waiting for the party! I made an appearance at the dinner and went to the clubs even had a dance but it’s safe to say I was the only sober one.

A huge thank you to all the girls for the updates and playing out of their skin. So proud of them all and can’t wait for next year!
