Richard Smith

Richard works at British Gymnastics as Education Programme Manager, overseeing the national pathway of coaches from development through to high performance as well as management of the judging programme and the transition of qualifications between Olympic cycles.

After graduating from Loughborough University in 2009, Richard’s professional career in sport began when he was elected to Athletic Union President, overseeing the development of 54 clubs from varying sports. Whilst at Loughborough he created a sport volunteer academy that went on to support Team GB in their preparations for the London Olympics. From here he moved to the English Institute of Sport, working as a Performance Lifestyle Advisor supporting Olympic and Paralympic athletes in Taekwondo, para-Cycling and Waterpolo before moving on to work primarily with GB Boxing in their preparations for the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Richard first started playing squash from a young age and has been part of several clubs, including being chairman at Loughborough University Squash Club. Richard now resides in Shropshire and is an active member of Shropshire Squash Club and regularly plays team squash in the county leagues.

Qualified as an Executive Coach and Mentor, Richard hopes to bring his experience and passion for the sport to support the development and growth of squash in Wales.
