What a fantastic weekend at the Cardiff venue as we wrapped up the final round of the 2026 Masters Squash Home Internationals, with the wonderful Welsh women’s 45s team in action.
On Friday evening, our team gathered to take on Scotland. It was a proud moment for Sarah as she earned her first Welsh Masters cap and stepped onto the court for her debut. She started a bit nervously, but by the second game, she was right in the zone. Despite a tight second game, she narrowly missed out, going down 3-0. Rhian showed great grit and put in a brilliant performance, narrowly losing 3-2. Both Helen and Tracy fought hard but were unable to secure a win, each going down 3-0. Clare, determined to get a result for Wales, played a disciplined and commanding game, securing a decisive 3-0 victory.
Our match against Ireland kicked off with real energy. Sarah played with confidence, securing a thrilling 3-2 win and banishing any nerves. Rhian, right after, played superbly, dominating the T and comfortably winning 3-0. Unfortunately, Ireland’s endurance proved too much for Helen, our No.1, who lost 3-1. Tracy gave it her all in the first game but narrowly lost 18-20; the match could have swung either way. The Irish player then ramped up the power, emerging victorious in three straight sets. With the score tied at 2-2, Clare stepped up and brought home the Welsh win with an excellent 3-1 victory.
England showed their strength throughout the competition and ultimately took the title. However, all our Welsh players put in a strong effort. Clare was outstanding in her third game, showing incredible determination, even though she narrowly lost 3-1.
A huge thank you to all the family and friends who came along to cheer us on throughout the weekend. Playing squash for Wales is a real honour, and it’s a pleasure to be part of the Welsh squash family. Thank you for helping make this an unforgettable weekend!
