Galway - 2025 MHI Ladies 055 - Squash Wales

May Half Term Squash Camps Now Open!

Galway – 2025 MHI Ladies 055

A superb weekend for the Ladies team – on Squash, Social and weather  front. It is a long way but worth it especially if you are lucky enough to snag a longer visit than just the weekend and with 2 birthdays over the weekend we were in good form from the off.

Joining the youngsters (Mens O35,) Vintage  ( Mens O55) and the  Veterans (Mens O75) the Ladies put up a good show.

Friday night started  in the deep end with England. Traditionally a tough one, but for a change the match went our way with Tracey Gibbs, Lynne Davies and Helen Barnard  all taking 3- 0 wins,  Sian lost to a strong No 4 in Wendy Hiscock and was politely requested to use Welsh should she wish to comment on her performance in public.

Birthday girl Jill went 2- 0 down before snatching 3rd then powering through with reference to the Jill pre recent injury

Great start on Friday night with Wales sitting 4-1 up against England.

Saturday morning v Ireland,  playing the Home Nation we were not sure what would be in store for us , but were pleasantly surprised that there were no surprises.

Tracey and Helen again too strong winning 3-0,  tight games for Jill and Lynne  with a battle for a 3-2 win for Wendy. All games played in good spirit.

Wales with 2 matches up we had a chance! Scotland also 2 matches up so we went into the afternoon as a true final playing for top spot with high hopes.

Scotland

Sian @ 5 started slowly but came through with a 3-2 win and we were off to a good start.  That’s where it ended for Wales. Lynne had a tough game at No 3 not finding her own game. 1-3 down. Helen had a stormer of a 5 setter v Kim Byers, and had victory snatched at 12 -10 in the 5th.  So 2-1 down and No 4 Wendy had her work cut out by true  veteran Pauline Douglas, who, with her vast experience, was too canny – and those reverse angle boasts shouldn’t be allowed!!  Matches now 3-1 down – game over – with Jill to play  but she  met her match against Donna Cruickshank.

Wales  went down 1-4 to worthy winners of the trophy – Scotland.  A credible second place.  Well done everyone involved.
