- “I have been playing squash since the mid-1980s, originally in Monmouth where I first played team squash. I was fortunate to be coached by experienced older players, who started by ‘showing me how to hold the racket’!
- In 2001 I gained my level 2 coaching qualification at the same time as I was changing my ‘day-job’ from a position in the food industry to a teaching career.
- Since 2010 I have been regularly coaching juniors at Hereford Squash, Tennis and Racketball Centre (formerly known as Hereford Whitecross Club). Before Covid I instigated a mixed adult group coaching session at the club to run alongside club-night and help retain new members.
- Post-Covid I have started group coaching sessions for Ladies and we now have 2 weekly sessions for ladies. Ladies’ numbers at the club have grown significantly since Covid (albeit from a very low starting point).
- In 2021, together with a fellow coach, I ran several taster sessions at local primary schools. Since 2022, I have spent a term each year running an after-school club and supporting lessons with squash sessions in the school hall as part of the school day at Madley Primary School.
- Besides my coaching activities, I run the Herefordshire County League which includes 5 teams from my own club and two from Wales – one from Monmouth and one from Presteigne. I am also a qualified stringer and string rackets for club members.”
