CARDIFF UNIVERSITY GIRLS ONLY PARTICIPATION PROJECT

13th July 2021

JuniorLocal news

After being approached by Cardiff University and Sport Cardiff, Squash Wales have been involved in a girls only participation project in Ysgol Treganna in Fairwater. The project aims to encourage females to participate in a wide range of sports whilst having female role models as coaches in after school taster sessions. The sessions also encourage club-school links to continue female participation and giving girls the opportunity to try something new.

During our visit to Ysgol Treganna, coach Sian Johnson delivered a fun filled session to 12 Year 5 girls, all of which enjoyed the opportunity to give squash a go and showed real commitment and progression in their 1 hour session. Pupils had previously tried other racquet sports but were really enthusiastic about the prospect of trying a new sport. All girls were signposted to their local club, Fairwater Squash Club and were excited to continue their development.

Being involved in the project has allowed us to deliver inclusive squash activities to females that may not feel confident to take part or try a new sport. Having the opportunity to provide squash to females has proved to be a huge success and we cannot wait to see some new faces at our club sessions in weeks to come!

If your school/organisation/club would like squash to be involved in a project, please get in touch with us.
