This was another outstanding performance for the Welsh team, with each player giving everything on court to gain valuable points and provided amazing support to their teammates in between games.
It is always a challenge playing England first, but ‘the gap is closing’ with some closely fought games between players. Jill Campion secured victory against Sarah Parr and I lost 3-2 in a very tight battle against Chrissie McMullen.
With a brilliant 3-2 win for Rhian Davies, we secured a 5-0 victory against Scotland to set us up for the second-place position against the home side, Ireland, for our final match.
Fiona Curthoys set the tone with her high and extremely effective serves, immediately putting pressure on her Irish opponent gaining a 3-0 win. With the match at 2-2, our second-place positioning was down to the last match. Jill Griffith provided us with a nail-biting finish and finally secured our victory in the 5th game with a 11-5 win.
This was a weekend of great squash, laughter, fun and friendship – everything Master’s Squash should be!
