Academy Selection Criteria
COMPULSORY CRITERIA
Juniors must:
- Be eligible to represent Wales as outlined in the Welsh Nationality Protocol.
- Sign and return a Squash Wales Code of Conduct and Commitment for Home & Away Events Form.
- Pay the annual contribution of £70 towards the cost of the Squash Wales Academy coaching and membership programme.
- Be a paid-up member of Squash Wales.
In order to be eligible for Welsh representation, all players will be judged on attendance, behavior and results in the following:
- National Squads that the player has been invited to.
- Welsh National Events, Open, Closed and North Wales Open.
- Welsh Regional Events.
- Welsh League results.
- Regional Academy Day squads and weekly Academy Training Night Squads.
- English Inter-County Championships, stage 1, (if selected)
- British Closed and Open.
- English Gold or Silver Events.
- Referral from Squash Wales Performance Team.
- Junior League results.
A player may be removed from an Academy Squad at any stage if they fail to comply with the compulsory criteria.
Selectors
- Squash Wales National Junior Coach.
- Squash Wales Performance Director.
- Squash Wales Performance Team Coaches.
- Squash Wales Regional Development Officers.
The selectors will meet prior to the first Academy Squad date to select players. Performances will be reviewed regularly to ensure that the inclusion and exclusion flexibility of the Squad structure is complied with.
The Selectors will place emphasis on individual performance, behavior, commitment and attitude at every stage of the Junior Development Pathway as defined in the Squash Wales Code of Conduct and Commitment for Home & Away Events.

- Richard Smith Board member – Lead on Performance
- Two Independent Board members of Squash Wales
Appeal Process
An appeal must:
- Be addressed to and received by Richard Smith Board Director for Performance of Squash Wales [email protected] in writing or email 14 days prior to the squad/event
- Contain the facts plus supporting evidence
The Panel will meet as soon as conveniently possible after receipt of an appeal. The decision of the Panel will be final and binding on the appellant and will be communicated in writing within 10 days.
