Look The Part

There’s no crisp whites required here. Wear sports clothing you’re comfortable in but make sure you’ve got the following equipment to get going

Rackets

Squash and Squash 57 rackets differ slightly, so make sure you pick up the right one for the game you intend to play.

– A squash racket has a small head and long handle.

– A squash 57 racket has a larger head

Rackets are available in all different weights and sizes so we’d recommend visiting a sports shop to try a selection, finding the right fit for you. Prices vary, but rackets can be purchased from around £10.

balls

The ball you use is mostly based on your experience. New to the game – you’ll be using a larger bouncier ball that will get you perfecting technique before moving on to balls with less bounce. Here are the types available:

Blue Dot – Larger, with a good bounce. These are a beginners best friend

Plain Black – Slightly smaller and firmer. Perfect for recreational players

Single Yellow Dot – Used mostly by club level players and in competition

Double Yellow Dot –  These have got the least bounce and best left to the professional & elite players.

Clothing and Shoes

Some clubs may require you to wear non-marking rubber sole shoes. Other than that, just make sure you’re wearing comfortable sports clothing you’re able to run around a court in.

RECOMMENDED RETAILERS

EYEWEAR

Mandatory at junior level, however recommended to all. Injury is rare in both Squash and Squash 57, but we think it’s better to be safe than sorry.

To ensure you’re buying the right protecting quality, look out for British Standard BS7930.1 Squash on eyewear you purchase.
