The Welsh Over 50’s women’s squash team put in a spirited performance at the Home Internationals held in Nottingham, finishing in 3rd place, in a weekend of high-quality squash.
Wales opened their campaign against a dominant England side, ultimately losing 5-0 despite determined efforts across all matches, with both Lynne Davies and Jill Griffith each getting a game off their English opponents.
Undeterred, Wales fought hard in their second match against Ireland. However, the Irish team proved to be a challenge too much and as a result lost 4-1.
The final match against Scotland proved to be a closely contested encounter. The Welsh ladies maintained their momentum, edging out their northern rivals with strong performances at key positions in the line-up, with some nail-biting 3-2 victories for Jill Campion, Helen Barnard and Jill Griffith. The 3-2 win over Scotland secured a third-place finish overall for the Welsh squad.
Captain and players alike were proud of their performances, particularly the comeback after the opening defeat. The tournament not only highlighted the team’s capability on court but also their camaraderie and commitment to representing Wales at the highest level.
