Frequently Asked Questions

What is Squash Wales Community Membership?

Community Membership is a new free membership for anyone who wants to stay connected with Squash Wales and the wider squash community in Wales, but who does not need the insurance benefits included with a paid membership.

Why has Community Membership been introduced?

We want to make it easier for more people to be part of Squash Wales. Community Membership gives people a free way to receive updates, hear about opportunities, access selected member benefits and stay involved, even if they are not currently playing or competing.

Who is Community Membership for?

Community Membership is for anyone who wants to keep in touch with Squash Wales, including supporters, parents, volunteers, former players, casual followers of the sport and people who may want to become more involved in future.

What do I get with Community Membership?

Community Members will receive Squash Wales communications, including newsletters, announcements, event updates and opportunities from the National Governing Body. Community Members will also be able to access selected partner discounts, including Karakal and Squash TV.

Does Community Membership include insurance?

No. Community Membership does not include group personal accident insurance. If you play squash regularly, you should choose the appropriate paid membership to ensure you have the correct insurance cover and access to the activities you wish to take part in.

Why doesn’t Community Membership include insurance?

Community Membership is designed for people who want to stay connected with Squash Wales but are not participating in squash activities that require insurance. Paid memberships include insurance because they support members who are actively taking part in the sport.

What is Recreational Membership?

Recreational Membership is the new name for the previous Social Membership. It costs £7.50 per year and is designed for people who play recreational, non-competitive squash in Wales.

Why has Social Membership changed its name?

We have renamed Social Membership as Recreational Membership to make the purpose of the membership clearer. The new name better reflects that this membership is for people who play recreational squash and want the relevant benefits and insurance cover for that level of activity.

What does Recreational Membership include?

Recreational Membership includes Squash Wales communications, access to all partner discounts and group personal accident insurance while playing recreational, non-competitive squash in Wales.

I already have Social Membership. What happens to my membership?

Your membership will continue as normal. The membership name is changing from Social Membership to Recreational Membership, but the existing membership remains in place for the duration of your current membership period.

I’m already a Social Member. Will my renewal change?

No. Your renewal process remains the same. The membership has simply been renamed

Do current members need to do anything?

No. Existing memberships remain unchanged. When your membership is due for renewal, you will be able to choose the membership category that best matches how you are involved in squash.

Why should I choose a paid membership instead of Community Membership?

If you play squash, compete, coach or referee, Community Membership may not provide the cover or access you need. Paid memberships provide additional benefits, including insurance cover and eligibility for leagues, competitions, coaching and refereeing, depending on the membership you choose.

Can I play in Squash Wales leagues with Community Membership?

No. To play in Squash Wales leagues, you must hold at least Team Player Membership.

Can I enter Squash Wales sanctioned events with Community Membership?

No. If you want to enter Squash Wales sanctioned events, you must hold the appropriate paid membership. For competitive play, this will usually be at least Team Player Membership.

Can I upgrade my membership later?

Yes. If your circumstances change or you decide you need a paid membership, you will be able to upgrade to the relevant membership category.

Can children or juniors join Community Membership?

Community Membership may be suitable for juniors who want to receive updates or stay connected with Squash Wales. However, juniors who play, train, compete or take part in organised squash activity will require a paid membership that provides the correct access and insurance cover.

Is Community Membership replacing paid memberships?

No. Community Membership is an additional free option. It does not replace paid memberships, which remain important for players, coaches, referees and anyone who needs insurance or eligibility for certain Squash Wales activities.

Which membership do I need if I coach or referee?

Coaches and referees need the appropriate Coach or Referee Membership for insurance purposes. Coach and Referee Memberships include Team Player Membership.

What has changed in simple terms?

We have added a new free Community Membership and renamed Social Membership as Recreational Membership. Paid memberships still exist and should be selected if you play, compete, coach, referee or require insurance.

Is Community Membership Right For Me.

Community Membership is ideal if you want to stay connected with squash in Wales, receive Squash Wales news and updates, access selected partner discounts and hear about opportunities to get involved, without requiring the insurance benefits included with a paid membership.
