Non Executive Finance Board Director

Organisational Summary:

Squash Wales are on a mission to create a positive and sustainable environment where everyone can reach their potential within all aspects of a vibrant squash community. Whether you aspire to be the next Joel Makin, Tesni Evans, or just enjoy getting active and having fun whilst doing it, we are here to make it happen.
It is an exciting time at Squash Wales – we are a medal winning, fast-growing Commonwealth Games sport that is perennially popular both Nationally and Internationally.

In order to continue the development of squash in Wales and beyond, Squash Wales is seeking to appoint a new Non-Executive Finance Director to its Board, who will bring both professional, qualified financial oversight to the business as well as supporting the overall mission of Squash Wales

About the Role

This is a non-salaried position as part of a team of other volunteer non-executive board members and a Chair who provide oversight, policy and strategic direction to the small staff team and a wide base of coaching and club volunteers.

The successful applicant will take an active role in ensuring that the day-to-day financial management of Squash Wales is in keeping with relevant statutory requirements and that operational finance arrangements comply with both Squash Wales and Sport Wales policies. Currently management accounting is undertaken by a long-term third-party provider, supported by the Office and Business Manager.

Travel and other reasonable out-of-pocket expenses will be reimbursed for attendance at official meetings and events on behalf of Squash Wales. The time commitment will be variable but is reasonably quantified as approximately 10 hours per month year round and attendance at Board meetings four times per year. Three out of four board meetings are held online, with one meeting per year (normally September), held in person in Cardiff. The initial term of office is 3 years.

All board members of Squash Wales are required to comply with a Board Code of Conduct, always taking an impartial view and providing independent oversight and challenge.

Previous board experience is not essential. We welcome applications from candidates who have not previously served in a board role but who can demonstrate the skills and competencies necessary to contribute to Squash Wales’s strategic objectives.

All Squash Wales board members are provided with relevant training upon appointment.

Knowledge of Squash is not an essential requirement for the role.
